Archie was born in June 2008 at 28 weeks + 1 day gestation, after a pretty normal pregnancy I just went into spontaneous labour. He weighed 2lb 14oz and was immediately put on a ventilator to help him breathe. Within 24hrs he was moved onto CPAP which he remained on for quite a while. It was an emotional roller coaster throughout the time spent in NICU. We went through the worrying results of brain scans, infections, not feeding, reflux and the dreaded ‘phonecall’ at home to say he had stopped breathing.
All in all he was in special care for about 2 months and came home at 36 weeks gestation. He is now a healthy 7 year old showing no lasting signs of ever being premature.
We are eternally grateful for the hard work and kindness shown by the doctors and nurses at the Lister Hospital and can never than them enough for all they did to help bring our baby home.
We fell pregnant again just before Archie’s 2nd birthday, this pregnancy was very different to Archie’s - what with the worry of going into premature labour again, but this time I was under the consultant from the word go and had 11 scans in total.
This time we got to 38 weeks and had another boy, Stanley.
