Comet Newspaper Community Awards 2017

The Families Group were amazed and overjoyed to hear they had been nominated for the 'Good Neighbour of the Year' award at the Comet's Community Awards 2017.

The award was aimed at all the Camilla Hamilton, one of the groups founder members who was chair up until 2016.

Current chair, Glyn Doggett said "we are delighted and very humbled to have been nominated up against some other amazing members of our local community. For me this highlights all the hard work that Camilla and fellow parents put in to establish our amazing group that aims to bridge the gap between the hospital and the outside world for new and old families who had children born on the unit."

The event was attended by families group member, Andrew Hall (pictured second from left) and his wife Laura, and although we didn't win Andrew said: "It was such a privilege to have attended the awards evening on behalf of the Families Group members for the work carried out to support those who spend time on the Neonatal Unit.
The families group, and particularly one founding member of the group (Camilla Hamilton) was nominated for the work that is carried out. As mentioned in the citation for being nominated "the group have had a mural painted on the walls of the unit to allow families of children that have spent time on the unit to show something special, and in doing so raising over £6,500".
The families group were nominated in the Good Neighbour category, and as we found out during the evening, was hotly contested by copious amounts of fantastic work by some truly amazing people.
Whilst we weren't the overall winners, to be 1 of 5 finalists in our category is very humbling, but the biggest outcome from the evening was to raise the profile of the families group and what we do. Simply by those we spoke with at our table, which included Police Dog Finn (we spoke to his owner, but he was present for the awards) the group has firmly be put on the map.
On behalf of the group we would like to thank those who continue to support the group in any way and if you would like to know more about how you can do more please contact us.
